Welcome, Laura Park!

This was an eventful week! First of all, we welcomed Laura Park to our home. We've know Laura for 3 years. She was a student in Duk-Sun's 2nd grade class at Oakcliff Theme School, which is only a mile from our home. At that time she had recently moved here from Argentina where her mom lives. Her dad lives here in Doraville. Her dad's job changed and he is on the road a lot, so he asked us to provide a home for Laura. We were delighted to say yes. Laura is outgoing, fun-loving and friendly. She also gets along with Michelle, Hank and Hannah very well.

Having 4 kids and two adults meant that we couldn't all fit into our Honda Accord, so we went out and bought a 2001 Honda Odyssey. This is a stock photo, but it really looks about the same. We are very happy to have it. Oh, and we also rearranged people in our house and moved a lot of furniture around.
After weeks of oppressive heat and drought we finally got some rain. On Saturday we went out and worked in the yard and Hank, Michelle and Laura were a lot of help--especially Hank. We are so proud of them and their eagerness to contribute to the needs of the family. While in the yard, we spotted some poisonous saddleback caterpillars. I didn't think they were poisonous, but while taking this photo the back of my hand touched the hairs of another one on the leaf above this one and it felt a little like a bee sting. Ouch! Still, aren't they cute?

This week for the first time, Hannah started sleeping through the night. Perhaps this means she is calming down and feeling settled enough to relax until morning. Not only that, for the first time she slept past 7a.m. till more like 8 or 9 a.m. She is learning more sign language: So far she can sign the following: Please, More, Thank you, I'm sorry. Dog, Cat, Alphabet letters 'a' and 'b', for example. Here's another thing. For the longest time, Hannah would only answer "no" (by shaking her head) to most any question. But now she understands so much more of what we are asking her and has gained confidence. So she has begun to answer yes when she agrees or wants something. It is thrilling watching her grow!
