Reformation Day at CCMA

At our church, instead of celebrating witches, ghosts, goblins, and gore, we celebrate Reformation Day.  Until this year, my family just never made it to the celebration, however, because of schedule conflicts, etc.  But this year, our kids were bigger and Heidi and Lisa are here with us, so to make sure I would attend I signed up to host one of the game stations.  At our station kids had to toss rings over medieval dolls.  Making the dolls turned out to be kind of a big project, but the girls enjoyed helping.  I made the stands out of pvc pipes and the games went well.  Of course, candy was handed out for ringing the dolls.  We were supposed to have 4 dolls, but time was short, so for the 4th doll we used a Snoopy-type doll with a dress on.  For more photos of the event, click here to see our friend's blog.

Yurt Camping Trip

Last year we tried going camping to celebrate my birthday.  As I recall, we had bad weather, took forever to get packed, and arrived in the dark at a locked gate and had not called ahead to get the code, so we ended up turning around and going back home.  This year, it was much better, as you can see.

This time we camped only a half hour from home, and in a yurt in case it rained, and it did, at 7a.m. the first morning!   Being close to home was convenient, because on the second evening we got hungry for Sweet Tomatoes (all you can eat salad bar), so we went there.  Sweet Tomatoes was near our house, so before dinner we stopped by the house and all took showers, dropped off the bicycles, checked on the dog, and then went back to the campsite.  It was a fun trip!  Everyone enjoyed themselves.  We might even do this again sometime.

A Longer, Better Fence

Two and a half years ago, we moved into this house from one which had a fenced in back yard. I knew we would get around to fencing this one in, but since fences are so expensive, I had to do it little by little.

First, there was the "no fence" stage. Then, there was the "dog run" stage. We used about 96 feet of portable dog kennel fencing and put it on the side of the house, making a dog run that allowed our dog, Suzie to run to both the front and back yards to patrol and be near us.

The problem with the dog run was that there was no direct connection to the house. Someone would have to put Suzie in and take her out each time. She could never communicate with us once we were in the house, either.

However, I kept looking for a deal on fencing and found a guy who was selling a lot at a very reasonable price. So I added 70 feet of fence panels to what I had, and I was able to create a fence that surrounded the better part of the back yard. This is so much better! Now Suzie can communicate when she wants to be let in or out, and letting her out is as simple as opening a door. :)

Another Fun Weekend in October

The weather was heaven-sent.  We were blessed to see and experience what we did this weekend.
I wish October had 10 weeks instead of 4!

New Korean Hanboks and Adoption Inspiration

Lisa and Heidi's parents did an awesome thing.  They sent us all new Korean Hanboks.   Our plan is to get a group photo taken with all of us, but so far we haven't done it yet.  Here are Lisa and Heidi in theirs, though.  Aren't they beautiful!

I ran across two families that need our prayers in the blogoshpere.  I came across one and then the other while looking for more info on hanboks.  These are two families who are adopting daughters from Korea and are still enduring that long waiting process.  It is hard waiting, and waiting....and waiting.   I'm going to contact them and send them a link to our blog to encourage them.

If you are interested in adoption, please check out these blogs.  They will inspire you to lean on God as you "go for it" and will touch your heart, I'm sure.

Dusting Off the Bicycles for Fall

Summer this year was just too hot to do much cycling.  So we were excited when the weather got cooler.  Here we all are at the park down the street getting our feet moving in a circular direction.  Thank God for fall!
