Flying Squirrels

Since the weather got warmer, we've occasionally gotten a night visitor outside our bedroom. This "visitor" gnaws on the cedar shingles on the exterior wall, so he usually announces that he has flown down from his nest. The most beautiful thing on a flying squirrel is his eyes. They are a shiny, glassy ebony color that make you think you want one of them as a pet. Too bad his eyes are white in the photo. After the flash, he "flew" over to the tree and scampered up it. But I'm sure he'll be back.

  1. That's cool that you got that shot of the flying squirrel! Hard to do I'm sure. We saw what I think was a pileated woodpecker one day (huge crow-sized bird with a red crested head), but by the time I got my camera, he had gotten scared off and we have not seen it again. I was able to get a fairly good picture of a flicker that I may post soon, though.
