Tire Repair

This month the car needed many repairs, such as a tune up, valve cover gasket, etc. I even had to get my rotors replaced for the second time. (A rotor is the part of the front wheel that the disk brake squeezes to make the car stop.) Why, you ask? Because the last mechanic put cheap Chinese rotors on, and they were warped. With this model car, the labor is 3.5 hours for putting on rotors, so be careful about the parts you put on your car. End of subject.

But there was one simple repair that I could do at home and let Hank help me. See photos for details. First, remove the tire.

Next, pull out the screw or nail that is causing the slow leak.
Next, use the file tool to clean the hole, and thread a strip of special rubber into a fancy needle. Add rubber cement to rubber strip, and insert needle as shown.
Now all that's left is to shave the ends off with a cutter, inflate the tire and check for leaks with soapy water.
